Experimental and Avant Gard film is a practice that challenge the order, rules and structure of traditional film making. It re evaluates linear narrative. A lot of the early experimental films used and focuses on a wide range of art disciplines such as painting, literature, poetry and dance.  They also experiment, reinterpret and play with the technical equipment used in film to see it limits and create something new.

Some experimental films have been distributed through the mainstream But most have been made on a low budget , self financed, with no crew. Often just  a one person with a grand idea, a challenger of how we see thing. Often times they are asking us to take a closer look or to reexamine how we see things. The  avant gard films are more of an investigation rather then a method to entertain for commercial gratification.
